Exhibition: Final Project

Here is the finished product!

Migrate

All the winged, clustering flock

stark silhouettes

A corvus caw, beween its claw

as it takes flight its wings withdraw.

A winter sparrow fashions its nest.

Perching, searching

They navigate the open skies

further, further

Traversing skies too dreary grey,

a new location where they’ll stay.

What is that common bird?

The one whose voice is often heard.

Project Update: Recording

Earlier today I began recording the poem to play over the top of my video. It’s taking longer than I expected, but I love the way it is turning out. Jimmy brought over his recording equipment, and my dad practiced reading the poem. I love my dad’s voice! Because I selected the dreary grey clips for my video, I decided that my dad would be the perfect narrator.

After recording, Jimmy and I messed around with some different sound effects that we could add in as background noise. So far it’s sounding pretty creepy. Surprisingly, creepy is the perfect sound for my project. It’s seeming very Edgar Allan Poe-esque. It reminds me a bit of Christopher Walken’s narration of Poe’s The Raven.

Project Update: Early bird gets the worm

After waking up very early in the morning to capture the best bird footage for the past week or so, I’ve finally gathered enough material to start putting my a video together.

I’ve also been able to find a better variety of birds that I didn’t have before like the American Crow, the Tree Sparrow (or Winter Sparrow), and the Bluejay.

I have decided to take my video documentary in a more artistic direction by narrating it with a poem that I am currently writing. This way it’ll be less of a science project and more of an art project.

Exploring the Line: Exploration #24: Combinations

For this exploration I chose to examine natural elements vs. Human-made elements along the line. I noticed the interaction between natural and human-made during my personal territory exploration, and I thought it was important to address is on the line. Obviously, natural vs. man-made things did not occur in the woods. The majority of my examples came from the section of the line that goes through the Alfred State campus, so this is where I centered my focus.

This is what I found:

A slug on a chunk of cement
